• PTFE or Teflon, polytetrafluoroethylene, is made of fluorine and carbon bonds which provide one of the strongest chemical linkages by displaying a compact symmetrical arrangement of atoms. The result of this bond and chain configuration is relatively dense, chemically inert and thermally stable polymer. PTFE has the ability to resist attacks of heat and most chemicals. PTFE rod exhibits the lowest electrical constant and lowest dissipation factors as compared to all the other solid materials. Also, because of strong chemical linkage, PTFE rod shows very little attraction for dissimilar molecules. The result of this phenomenon is low coefficient of friction of 0.05. Also, due to its chemical bonding the PTFE rods are virtually insoluble.

• PTFE or PolyTetraFluoroEthylene is a thermoplastic polymer that is used in the manufacture of various components that are of great demand in the polymer and other industries.
• The PFTE compound is produced by free radical polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene. Because tetrafluoroethylene can explosively decompose to tetrafluoromethane and carbon, special apparatus is used for polymerization to prevent the hot spots that might cause dangerous side reactions. The process is initiated with the help of persulfate, which in turn hemolyzes to generate sulfate radicals and the resulting polymer is terminated with sulfur ester groups. This is then hydrolyzed to give OH-end groups.
